Portland police officers arrested five people and cited 25 more during a street racing sting Sunday night in North Portland, the bureau said. Around 10 p.m., a group of racers took over North Columbia Boulevard near Peninsular Avenue, speeding down the corridor and performing stunts for a few hours. The Police Bureau's North Precinct and former members of the disbanded traffic division responded with a drone and dog unit. The mission comes in response to a February fatal car crash tied to street racing , the August death of a bystander pedestrian hit by a car that was racing and a March 2022 shooting linked to a street takeover that injured four , including an 11-year-old.
